Concord, N.C. – This Hispanic Heritage Month, U.S. Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell of Florida’s 26th Congressional District, is celebrating the spirit and resilience of the Latino community by honoring and highlighting stories of Floridians who have made a lasting impact on the community during these unprecedented times. Representative Mucarsel-Powell and a member of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus will hold a virtual event to honor seven local Hispanic leaders, one of which is NASCAR Drive for Diversity Development Driver, Nicholas (Nick) Sanchez.

A group of local students have been invited to the event to learn about Hispanic leadership and heritage, as well as be inspired by the awardees as they share messages of hope.

“It is of utmost importance that we continue to elevate the stories of Floridians who have made important contributions to our community during the COVID -19 pandemic,” said Congresswoman Debbie Mucarsel-Powell.

Sanchez is a full-time race car driver in NASCAR’s ARCA Menards Series and a 3-year member of NASCAR’s Drive for Diversity Driver Development Program. Sanchez runs for Rev Racing, owned by Max and Jennifer Siegel. The NASCAR Drive for Diversity Program is a developmental program designed to provide training and opportunities for women and minorities in the driver’s seat and on pit crews within the NASCAR industry.

“I am very excited to be honored by Florida’s 26th Congressional District and Congresswoman Debbie Mucarsel-Powell,” said Nick Sanchez. “Being a part of the NASCAR Drive for Diversity Program has really given me a platform to not only showcase my talents as a driver, but to make an impact around me everyday. I have had the privilege to be a role model for young people and volunteer with several different philanthropic efforts in communities across the country.”

The 26th Congressional District’s Hispanic Heritage Month recognitions will take place virtually on Wednesday, October 14th at 4:00pm ET.  The event will be conducted via webinar and will be viewed by a group of local students and media.
