Scott to make NASCAR Mikel’s Truck Series debut at Súper Óvalo Chiapas in Mexico

May 18, 2021 at 3:00 PM

Concord, NCNASCAR Drive for Diversity Youth Development Driver Lavar Scott, 17, will make his first start in the FB Bohn Mikel’s Trucks Series, driving the No. 34 Scott’s Auto and Towing Ford for Dynamic Motorsports at Súper Óvalo Chiapas on May 22-23 in Tuxtla Gutierrez, Mexico.

The deal to race in the series was spurred by his own Rev Racing teammate Regina Sirvent, who, alongside being in the NASCAR Drive for Diversity Program herself, regularly races in the NASCAR Peak Mexico Series and NASCAR Trucks Mexico. Sirvent is the only female driver in both series.

Scott, from Carney’s Point, New Jersey, is in his second season as a member of the NASCAR Drive for Diversity Driver Development Program. Scott earned the respect of his team this past year and is now piloting a full-time ride in the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Touring Series in the Late Model Stock car.

Participating in the 2019 NASCAR Drive for Diversity Youth Driver Development Combine, evaluators saw potential in Scott’s abilities and tested with him throughout the 2019 season. Scott also was invited to the 2019 NASCAR Drive for Diversity Driver Stock Car Combine in October, and was offered a seat in a U.S. Legend car with Rev Racing in their youth development program during the 2020 season. The team continued to test his abilities in the late model throughout 2020, which ultimately earned him an opportunity to run his rookie season in the weekly touring series.

“It’s going to be an interesting experience,” says Scott. “I’ve never driven in this series before, nor have I driven a car like this before. I haven’t even been out of the country before, so this entire experience will be one I’ll remember for a long time.” But Scott says even though he’s excited for the experience—and the prospect of racing in more races in the series—his main focus is on Rev Racing.

Sunday’s race is the first race of the year for the series. Created in 2017, the FB BOHN Mikel’s Trucks Mexico Series is entering just its fifth season. Practice for the race starts on Saturday, with the race being the next day. Super Óvalo Chiapas is 1.2 kilometers of length, and the race will span 90 laps.
