RICHMOND, Va. (Oct. 17, 2013) – HCA Virginia’s Thomas Johns Cancer Hospital has teamed up with Rev Racing and the American Lung Association to present “Rev Up for Lung Health,” an educational event to raise awareness about lung health.
The program will feature remarks by Mackena Bell, professional NASCAR Drive for Diversity driver for Rev Racing, and Pablo Gonzalez, M.D., medical oncologist with Virginia Cancer Institute, who will discuss lung health, lung cancer and preventable risk factors. In addition, an outdoor photo opportunity with Bell and her NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race car will follow.

The free event will be held Thursday, Oct. 24 at the Thomas Johns Cancer Hospital, Johnston-Willis Hospital, 1401 Johnston-Willis Drive, Richmond. The presentation will take place at 5:30 p.m. and will be followed by the photo session with Bell and her race car from 6:30-7:30 p.m.

“I feel so honored to be partnering with the American Lung Association and HCA Virginia for this great event,” said Bell. “As an athlete and the granddaughter of a lung cancer victim, spreading awareness of lung health and smoking cessation is a cause that’s very near to me.”

“The most important issue dealing with lung health relates to the need to encourage smoking cessation or more importantly, to never start,” said Gonzalez. “We are excited to partner with Rev Racing and the American Lung Association in this unique opportunity to raise awareness about lung disease prevention.”
